How do I determine which items cannot be imported to my country?

Last Updated:

Regarding international shipping, items must go through both export and import procedures before arriving in the destination country.

First, an export inspection is conducted by Japanese customs.

For a list of commonly prohibited items for international shipment, please refer to the page here.

Once an item passes the export inspection, it will be shipped. However, please note that customs regulations and import laws vary by country, and in some cases, import may not be permitted.

To confirm whether your purchased item can be imported, please check with the customs authority in your country or conduct an online search.

In some cases, it may be necessary to prepare specific documents in advance.

* Please note that FROM JAPAN is unable to provide customs-related documents such as certificates of origin, safety data sheets, or other documentation specific to certain products or categories.

As a reference, please review the examples provided by Japan Post at the link above.

You may also contact the local office of your chosen shipping carrier. They may be able to assist with required documentation or customs procedures for import.

Below are some specific examples:

United States: Alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of up to 70% cannot be imported without a license, even if purchased for personal use.

Malaysia: Adult-related items are not permitted for import.

Indonesia: Used items cannot be imported without an import license.
