US Customs (Latest)
Customs duties may be applied based on the item and the country. In addition to the fees charged by us, further customs duties might be charged by the government. Customs procedures and the payment of customs duties are the responsibility of the importer (customer). Currently, there are numerous changes occurring in the US. We always recommend checking with your local authorities for the most current information. However, we can share the information we have, as of now: Latest Updates: 22 Aug 2025 - ECMS is temporarily halting services to the US except when sending via DPP (duties/taxes pre-paid). We currently do not offer this option, and so cannot currently provide delivery via ECMS. 27 Aug 2025 - Japan Post has suspended postal services to the US. The below options are still available: FedEx DHL UPS 4 Sep 2025 - An update to the US - Japan Trade Agreement has been made, but date of implementation is unclear. Details can be found here but the below may be of particular interest: Previously ad valorem duties had been applied ontop of the 15% reciprocal tariff. With this update, only the higher of either ad valorem duties OR 15% reciprocal tariff will be applied. Information As of 15 Aug 2025 Below is a simplified overview of changes regarding how tariffs will be applied to customers importing into the US. BEFORE De Minimis treatment was applied for imports into the US, meaning packages valued under 800 USD were not subjected to any taxes. For packages valued at 800 USD or more, tariffs/taxes were applied in accordance with existing US/Japan trade regulations. These charges are payable by the importer (customer) upon the item’s arrival. AFTER Effective from 29 August 2025, De Minimis treatment has been suspended. This means that all packages, regardless of value, will incur applicable tariffs/taxes. These charges are payable by the importer (customer) upon the item’s arrival. New tariff rates were implemented on 7 Aug 2025. The new baseline tariff rate for Japanese goods entering the US is 15%. These charges are payable by the importer (customer) upon arrival of the item. The above is a baseline tariff. So we would expect this amount to be due as a minimum. However, some types of items, such as some clothing, carparts, etc may face rates above 15%. These charges are payable by the importer (customer) upon the item's arrival. We can try to provide more guidance on this when we have more information. Same as before, shipping via FedEx, DHL & UPS will likely incur brokerage fees. These charges are payable by the importer (customer) upon the item's arrival. GENERAL INFO How tariffs/taxes are calculated and levied is determined by the delivery company. We have no influence over this. We do not have information on how each delivery company will implement these tariffs. For further details, we recommend contacting your local delivery company office. We will provide updates if more information becomes available. We do not currently offer an option to pre-pay duties/taxes. Sending via FedEx, DHL & UPS will require payment of duties/taxes and brokerage fees upon arrival. If payment of duties/taxes is not completed, and your package is returned, a refund cannot be provide for already incurred costs. We can of course assist in re-shipment of returned packages, however please note that this will incur re-shipping costs, as well as payment of the original duties/taxes that will have been paid for by the delivery carrier to customs.
